Much of my early writing was done in a variety of fanfiction and slash fiction communities. It was only after I had a bit of experience simply plotting and writing that I decided to try creating my first entirely original characters and story. I know that the concept of fanfiction and slash fiction is a contentious one in the gay romance world, but I for one remain whole heartedly in favor of fanfiction and slash fanfiction. Writing in fanfiction communities gave me valuable experience along with feedback, both positive and negative, and helped me to (hopefully) become a better writer. Fanfiction communities gave me an opportunity to plot some stories and follow those ideas through to completion. I found those years of writing to be quite valuable. And while I would love to, the writing I did in those days is really so specific to particular television shows that I do not see a way to ever convert those stories to general fiction. So, those stories will remain valuable experiences for me.
